Amedee Jude Abadie

Amedee Jude Abadie passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on February 10, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Amedee was a devout Catholic who deeply loved God. He was a humble man who dedicated his life to his wife, Maisie, and their six children. He loved building things and spent many years constructing additions to his home for his growing family. He delighted in tending to his garden which provided many vegetables that Maisie would turn into delicious Sunday meals. He could often be found washing dishes after those meals or in his yard raking leaves - two of his favorite things to do. He was one of thirteen children and learned the value of hard work early on. That work ethic stayed with him throughout his entire life whether at work or at home. He grew up speaking French and would still greet us with “Comment ça va?” when we saw him. He loved to whistle, and his home was often filled with that joyful sound. He will be fondly remembered for his gentle spirit and kind smile. Devoted husband for 68 years to the late Maisie Abadie. Nurturing father of Sharon Abadie, Gail Surla (Dio), Lisa Triche (Randy), Allison Duhe (Dennis), Amy Whitehead (Jerry), and the late Mark Abadie. Caring grandfather of Nicole Strauss, Erin Autin (Ben), Sarah Triche, Brandon Duhe, and Zachary Surla. Proud great-grandfather of Henry Autin. Son of the late Amedee Alexander Abadie and Ada Waguespack Abadie. Brother of the late Antoinette Roussel (Albin), Maurice Abadie (Lesiel), Ruth Walter (John), Vernon Abadie, Rita Camallo (Mike), Vivian Huber (Tom), Leo Abadie (Lois), Mabel Garland (Jimmy), Gerard Abadie (Ferol), Harold Abadie (Ann), Lyman Abadie, and Conrad Abadie. Known as Uncle Abby or Uncle Bay to a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Ashley, Kristie, and Renee of St. Catherine’s Hospice and to Dr. Colin Bailey for their loving and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Friday, February 14, 2025 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 529 W. 5th Street, LaPlace. Visitation will be at the Church from 10:00am-11:30am with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30am. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made for Masses to be celebrated in his memory.
