Jena Leslie Chenier

Jena Leslie Chenier passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, at the age of sixty-seven. Born in Newport, Arkansas, to Helen and Joseph Leslie, Jena moved to LaPlace, Louisiana, in 1966 and remained a cherished member of the community for the rest of her life. She was the beloved wife of Rickie Chenier, with whom she shared thirty-five wonderful years. Jena was a devoted mother to her sons, Brandon (Vivian) and Billy Cook (Jenny) and her special fur baby, Buster. She was a loving grandmother to Kyle, Alec, Vickey, Kristin, Hayden, Abigail, Gabrielle, and Jacob, and a proud great-grandmother of six. She was also a dear sister to Carolyn Jouty (Charles) and Joseph Leslie, and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she was a sister-in-law to Geri Weber and Barbara Bourgeois. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Joyce Murry, her parents Helen and Joseph Leslie and her mother in law Amy “Marie” Clement whom we are certain was waiting for her to enter the gates of heaven with open arms. A true Cajun at heart, Jena found joy in the outdoors, whether fishing, running crab traps, or shrimping. She had a passion for cooking, and every dish was sure to please. Jena treasured the memories of the annual Cochon de Lait she and Rickie hosted for family and friends over the years. She looked forward to tending to her garden and of course sharing her crops with all. Professionally, she worked as a heavy equipment operator for over thirty-five years, primarily with T.L. James &; Company. Her expertise and dedication made her highly respected in her field. Jena deeply valued the time spent with her late best friend, Nancy, her sister-in-law, Pam as well as her family and friends. Her kind spirit and unwavering love touched many lives and will be forever remembered by those who knew her. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Ochsner Medical Center Neuro Team for its compassionate care over the past four months. A funeral service celebrating Jena's life will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 529 W. 5th Street, LaPlace. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Interment will be at St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
