Merlyn Poche Schexnaydre Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Merlyn “Merlene” Poche Schexnaydre entered eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the age of 83. Born on November 21, 1938, she was a native of Paulina, LA and a resident of New Sarpy, LA for the past 59 years. She was a beautiful soul with an amazing personality. Her family was her great vocation. Her heart was rooted in her River Road home. She enjoyed visits with everyone who stopped by and typically a home cooked meal was offered among the conversation. She was larger than life enjoying each day to the fullest. She never met a stranger and always with a kind smile and lipstick. Her most favorite times were spent with her family and friends over a cup of hot tea, out to eat at a seafood restaurant, dancing to good music, playing cards, Bingo, or bus trips to the casino. She was the light of our family and will be missed dearly. She is reunited with those who preceded before her in death: her husband of 46 years, Herman J. Schexnaydre, her son, Rock Anthony Schexnaydre, her parents, Rudolph and Noemie Kinler Poche, her siblings, Earl, Marvin and his wife Eunice, and Arlen and his wife Charlene Poche, and best friend and only sister, Gail Poche Troxclair and her husband Vincent. Merlene is survived by her children and their spouses: Olivia & Michael Denoux of Norco, Jerome & Gayle, Richard & Sherry, and Stacey of Destrehan, and Ramona & Mark Duhe of Luling. She was “Maw Maw Lene” to her 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Candice & Gil Schmidt III, Courtney & Jeff Nunez, Shelby & Alex Hidalgo, Jeremy, Zachary & Julie, Avery, Rock Austin and Madelyn Schexnaydre and 4 great-grandchildren, Caden and Ansley Schmidt and Kate and Cooper Nunez. She is also survived by her siblings, Ronald (Carolyn), Sherwood (Linda) Poche of Lutcher, and Lanny (late Janel) Poche of Baker, sisters-in-law Sarah Poche and Pearl Poche, and was “Nin-Nin”/ “Aunt Merlene” to a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Rd., Destrehan, LA on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan, LA. Arrangements by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home.
