Laura Specht

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Laura Specht, who went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2026. Laura was the heart of her family, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy was bringing people together. Family gatherings were her happy place, whether around the dinner table, at the camp in Grand Isle, or by the pool, just celebrating milestones, or simply sharing laughter and stories. Her home was always welcoming, her kitchen ALWAYS busy, and her heart always open. The kitchen was a place of love, where meals were shared, stories told and everyone felt welcome. She was a great listener, she truly listened, and offered compassion, wisdom and honesty. A woman of deep and joyful faith, Laura was a lifelong Catholic who lived her beliefs through service. She was an active volunteer at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church – Laplace, generously giving her time to altar society, making St. Joseph cookies, cleaning the church, communion to the homebound and all kinds of parish events. Her faith wasn’t just something she practiced, it was something she lived daily, offering kindness, encouragement, and prayer to everyone she met. Laura had a loving presence whose life was marked by a deep appreciation for time spent with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was cooking for everyone, believing that food was one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to show love. Her carrot cakes, Oreo balls, crawfish pies and crawfish bisque will forever be remembered and missed. She would peel crawfish with love, even though she didn’t eat crawfish. She would always start early on her elaborate Christmas village and her handmade Christmas stockings; usually while watching the Christmas in July Halmark Christmas movies. Family pool parties often have Laura dumping ice in the pool so her grandchildren would not get over heated. After the sun went down, she would move the party inside for friendly, feisty card games. Sometimes causing the cards to fly when knuckles crack the table or when someone cheats. Laura was the one you could count on when your boat broke down in Grand Isle, she might fly past you going 100 mph, but eventually she will rescue you. She would bring a kiddie pool for the grandkids to swim in at the camp to be safe. Though we grieve her passing, we are grateful for the time we shared with Laura and the love she gave so freely. May she now rest in eternal peace, reunited with those who have gone before her. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, TJ Tregre and Lucille Tregre. Laura is lovingly survived by her husband of 62 years Wilfred “Sonny” Specht. Her sons Mark Specht and Brad Specht (Debby). Grandchildren, Collin Specht (Jomalyn), Dustin Specht (Rebecca), Shea Specht, Hunter Specht (Caitlin), Paige-Specht- Stein (Jacob), Hailey-Specht Western (Connor), and several great grandchildren. While our family mourns her passing, we rejoice the promise of eternal life and take comfort knowing she now rests in God’s loving embrace. We will forever picture her swinging on the porch, smiling and praying the rosary. “Well, done, good and faithful servant”. - Matthew 25:23 A Mass will be celebrated at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1900 Greenwood Drive, Laplace, LA 70068, on Thursday, January 29, 2026. Visitation open to guests 10 a.m. Rosary at 11:30 a.m. Followed by mass at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, In loving memory of Laura Specht.
