Lowell Joseph Bacas

Lowell Joseph Bacas, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025 at the age of 81. Born in Edgard, Louisiana, he was known for his unwavering commitment to the students of St. John The Baptist Parish school system. He loved sports and was himself a gifted athlete. Kind and gentle, he was able to make everyone in his presence feel special, changing and sculpting the lives of the many students he touched. He had great pride in his faculty, colleagues, and staff, and always spoke of them as the best there was. Born on June 24, 1943, Lowell grew up with a deep love for sports and education, with basketball being his first love. He was a coach, mentor, and source of inspiration to all who knew him. Lowell's passion for sports mirrored his dedication to fostering teamwork and resilience, values he carried into his remarkable 47-year career in education. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Albert Henry Bacas, who served as a teacher and principal for 48 years in the St. John The Baptist Parish school system. As a principal and educator in the St. John school system, Lowell touched countless lives, shaped young minds, and lead with integrity, kindness, and an unwavering commitment. His ability to connect with students, teachers, and parents alike made him a beloved figure in the community. Outside of work, Lowell found joy in going to basketball games, crabbing, and watching the Saints play. When he was cheering, he would always exclaim "throw it downtown!" Above all, his greatest pride and joy came from his family. Lowell is survived by his wife of 57 years Sandra; his children, Erin Bacas Remondet, Erica Harris (Jack), and David Bacas; his grandchildren Sydney, Brody, Dominic, and Grayson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Albert Bacas, Jr. (Linda) and Janet Leblanc (Lonnie). He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosalie Simon Bacas, his father, Albert Henry Bacas, and brother Byron Bacas (Shawn). Lowell's legacy of compassion, leadership, and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Visitation at church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass to immediately follow at 12:00 p.m.
