Lyn Mary Dillon Schroeder Lyn Mary Dillon Schroeder left this Earth September 23, 2016, to be with our Father and Savior, Jesus Christ after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Gustav F. Schroeder and her three loving children Fredrick J. Schroeder (with wife Jennifer Schroeder and sons Gus and Jim Schroeder), Christopher Dillon Schroeder (with wife Susan Schroeder and daughters Keegan and Kameron Schroeder), and Erin Schroeder West (with husband Irvin West and daughter Sidney West), her sister Deanie Baroni, and her brother Charles Edward Dillon. Lyn is preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Marcelle Dillon, her stepmother Rosemary Dillon, and her brother Sidney Dillon. Lyn was born on February 7, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in Old Metairie with her sister and grandparents. She went to school there and graduated high school from Holy Angels. She began her adult life working and attending college classes. In her early 20's she met a fine young sailor in the Navy. Gus was on leave and came to visit New Orleans with a friend of his. This friend of his was dating Lyn's best friend which resulted in Gus and Lyn being set up on a blind date. After a couple years as pen pals, while Gus was in the service, they ended up marrying in 1961. For a very short couple of months they moved to Pittsburg near Gus's family. The harsh winter quickly convinced this southern bride she needed to head back south and so they did. (Happy wife is a happy life) Lyn and Gus decided to start a family here in the south and had 3 children, Fredrick, Chris, and Erin. They decided to raise these children in LaPlace, Louisiana and have resided here ever since. Here Lyn decided to begin a successful career in real estate. This was a calling for her to help families achieve their dream in home ownership. Not only did she love this career but she met some of her lifelong friends through it. She was also a devoted Catholic and attended mass at St. Joan of Arc Church for 43 years. With friends and family she frequently traveled the world. She has been to China, Russia, Vietnam, Spain, Greece, and much more. Her favorite thing to do was go on cruises and she had it down to a science. Lyn will be missed by anyone who had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her. She was so upbeat and happy. She was extremely grateful for every day she had. She was so appreciative of everything she had and all of her blessings. Our family wanted to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home for caring for Lyn during her stay. Also a big thank you to the company Hospice Compassus for making sure Lyn had the extra care she deserved in her final days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 W. 5th Street, LaPlace on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. Visitation at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
